Former HOMELAND star DAVID HAREWOOD marked World Mental Health Day on Tuesday (10Oct17) by revealing he was once hopsitalised after suffering a nervous breakdown.
The actor took to Twitter to open up about his own mental health issues, admitting he was sectioned in his 20s.
Now 51, the Supergirl star wrote: “It’s #WorldMentalHealthDay today. As someone who had a breakdown and was sectioned in my 20s I’m here to tell you that there’s no shame in talking about it if your struggling.
“I haven’t done too bad since! Go easy on yourself today, and get some help if you can.”
David, who is a dad of two, found comfort in listening to a fellow patient quoting William Shakespeare as he recovered from the health drama in the hospital.
“A man was brought in who was quoting Shakespeare!” he recalls. “I remember thinking… ‘I recognize that!'”
Harewood’s Twitter followers commended him for opening up about his breakdown on World Mental Health Day, prompting the actor to thank them for their support.
“Thank you for all your responses and kind words,” he wrote. “Best of luck to you if you’re going through a tough time. Stay strong! My struggles have led to success, so find your path and keep your head up!”
