A Los Angeles judge has put an end to JOHNNY DEPP and AMBER HEARD’s divorce drama by finalising their split on Friday (13Jan17).
The former couple has been duking it out in court ever since The Danish Girl actress filed papers last May (16) to end her 15-month marriage to the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.
Although Depp agreed to pay Heard $7 million (£5.7 million) to settle the divorce last August (16), proceedings have been delayed in recent weeks thanks to accusatory motions issued by both parties, but on Friday, the judge presiding over the case declared he had had enough and ordered an official end to the matter.
“I just see this as a lot of bickering back and forth,” Judge Carl Moor said in a court hearing, according to the New York Daily News.
Heard, who accused Depp of being physically and verbally abusive towards her throughout their brief union, slammed her ex last month (Dec16) for failing to pay the settlement funds by the agreed deadline.
Her attorneys then filed a Request for Order, imploring the actor to uphold his end of the agreement and pay the money, which she plans to give to the American Civil Liberties Union’s (ACLU) domestic violence unit and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
However, Depp and his legal team answered the motion by requesting the judge order Heard to pay $100,000 (£82,000) toward Johnny’s legal fees, insisting she should be sanctioned for delaying the case and attempting to renegotiate the terms of their divorce settlement.
Judge Moor shut down both petitions in court on Friday and ruled the $7 million settlement stands, adding Depp and Heard are responsible for their own legal fees.
Following the hearing, Heard’s attorney Pierce O’Donnell told DailyMail.com, “This is a great day, all Amber wanted was to be divorced and now she is.”
