LINDSAY LOHAN has attempted to defend movie producer HARVEY WEINSTEIN in several videos posted on her Instagram story on Tuesday (10Oct17).
Weinstein has been accused of several decades of sexual abuse and harassment of women in the movie industry, including big names such as Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow. While each day sees another batch of celebrities condemning the mogul for his actions, Lindsay had a different take on the scandal in the videos she shared to her social media.
In one video, shot from her home in Dubai, Lindsay stated: “I feel very bad for Harvey Weinstein right now. I don’t think it’s right what’s going on.”
Lindsay, who has worked with Weinstein on 2006 movie Bobby and Scary Movie 5 in 2013, then shared another video which featured Harvey’s name alongside an angel emoji, and told the camera: “He’s never harmed me or did anything to me – we’ve done several movies together. I think everyone needs to stop – I think it’s wrong. So stand up.”
The 31-year-old actress also urged Weinstein’s wife Georgina Chapman to “take a stand and be there for her husband”.
Lindsay quickly deleted the bizarre videos from her Instagram page.
Her message came as Marchesa designer Georgina confirmed she had made the decision to leave her husband because of his “unforgivable actions”.
“My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions,” she told People in a statement. “I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time.”
Her stance is in sharp contrast to Weinstein’s remarks just days before, in which he stated that his wife and children India, seven, and Dashiell, four, “couldn’t be standing behind me more” .
“I have had tough conversations with my family, really tough ones, but my family is standing with me… Georgina will be with others kicking my a*s to be a better human being and to apologise to people for my bad behaviour,” he added.
Weinstein has been fired from The Weinstein Company following the claims about his behaviour and is reported to be heading to a rehab facility in Europe to seek help for his alleged sex addiction.
