SHAKIRA has scrapped a series of appearances due to “personal matters”.
The Colombian pop star announced the news via Twitter just hours after sharing behind-the-scenes footage of herself and Maluma responding to their new single Chantaje online.
The 39-year-old singer posted the sad news in both English and Spanish, tweeting, “Due to personal matters, I won’t be able to travel to Las Vegas & LA to attend the Latin Grammys or the American Music Awards this year.
“I will be accompanying @carlosvives in spirit @LatinGRAMMYs, celebrating this incredible year that we’ve shared together with #LaBicicleta.”
Vives and Shakira will compete for the coveted Record of the Year honour at the 2016 Latin Grammy Awards.
No other details about why Shakira will be a no-show at the awards ceremonies has been revealed.
Meanwhile, The Hips Don’t Lie singer and Maluma’s Chataje hit has become only the 14th song to debut at the top of America’s Hot Latin Songs chart in its 30-year history.
It’s Shakira’s 11th number one and fellow Colombian Maluma’s first.
The song is also Shakira’s 19th hit on America’s Billboard Hot 100 countdown, debuting at number 96 on Monday (07Nov16).
