99. 1957: Eartha Kitt Being the Epitome of Cool
Orson Welles called her ‘the most exciting woman in the world’, and cast her as Helen of Troy in his staging of Dr. Faustus. Pictured here in 1957, it’s safe to say she could have been the coolest woman in the world too. Kitt was a successful singer as well as an actress, at a White House luncheon she aired her views on the Vietnam War to Lady Bird Johnson. Her comments put a hold on her career so she focused her energies on Europe and Asia for a time.
