6. Another Brick in the Wall
The American steel that will build Donald Trump’s wall along the Mexican border stood solidly at the forefront of his campaign while going hand-in-hand with his promises of strict immigration policies and deportation. The wall stood out in the mind’s of voters like the one protected by the Night’s Watch in Game of Thrones, therefore making the citizens of Mexico the equivalent to the White Walkers in the eyes of Donald Trump and his supporters! While the President-elect has softened slightly, according to Vanguard, with his claim that he may have to build a fence in place of a wall in some areas of the Mexican border, there are those now claiming neither fence nor wall will curb the issue of illegal immigration coming from South of the border.
“The wall is not going to stop anyone.” That’s what Jorge Garcia thinks, a resident who stands to lose part of his property if the project comes to fruition. Garcia told Fran Bajak of the Associated Press in a report released by ABC News that citizens like him living in the Rio Grande Valley are pushing for not a physical wall, but a virtual alternative. Virtual surveillance is a much more practical method that is not only already in wide use but expanding as well. At this point, Donald Trump’s wall remains the same old pledge he’s been preaching since early 2015. One thing’s for sure according to Reuters, however, Mexico still adamantly states that they will not pay for the wall’s construction no matter what Trump says.
